Festivities of Sant Honorat
The Festivities of Sant Honorat, the winter patron saint of Algaida, are held in mid-January with a varied schedule of cultural and traditional events, the most important being the festivity of the even of Sant Honorat and the dances of the Cossiers.
Celebrations begin on the 15th of January in the afternoon, with the Marching Band of Algaida and the capgrossos (big-headed carnival figures). At night bonfires are lit in the square with a grilled meats and wine for everyone, traditional music played by the ‘xeremiers’ and the ‘correfoc’ (fire-run). The following day is the day of Sant Honorat, with mass in the morning with the participation of the Orfeó de Castellitx choir and the dance of l’Oferta by the Cossiers. The Cossiers also dance in the Church Square after the mass.
